Our Friends: the Heritage Gardeners

The North Bay Heritage Gardeners are dedicated to developing a year-round, community-based, educational, horticultural, and environmental program focusing on waterfront beautification. They work with the Near North Palliative Care closely to maintain a space for butterflies to prosper, and work mutually to support each other’s organizational needs. They are a collaborative, friendly, strong group of volunteers.

Further Information

Primarily a volunteer gardening organization with a focus on horticultural and environmental education. The Heritage Gardeners are a local organization with over 300 volunteer gardeners who maintain and enhance the ornamental gardens along the waterfront. New volunteers are always welcome; no gardening experience required! FREE education sessions are offered to grow your gardening knowledge.

The gardening season runs from May to October each year, kicking off with a spring community cleanup in May and finishing by planting bulbs in October. Volunteers are placed in teams along the waterfront and garden under the guidance of a team leader. A guest gardener program is available for occasional gardeners. Teams typically spend 1-2 hours per week maintaining their garden bed.

Sign up for Heritage Gardeners’ seasonal Newsletter at http://eepurl.com/uj0MH . The newsletter contains information and updates on the Heritage Gardeners program, upcoming events and local news. Follow the Heritage Gardeners on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram @NBHGardeners.

Interested in doing some gardening in the warmer months? The NNPCN is happy to collaborate with the Heritage Gardeners to maintain our Pollinator’s Garden, a flowerbed which rests right by the Kiwanis Bandshell and helps to feed our butterflies every summer.

If you would like to learn how to garden or put your skills to use in the warm summer sun, consider volunteering with us. ANYONE CAN APPLY!
