Grief is a natural response to loss, yet it can often feel overwhelming and isolating. NNPCN offers compassionate grief and bereavement support for individuals and families following the death of a loved one, helping them navigate the challenges of loss in a caring and supportive environment.
Our approach is based on compassionate accompaniment. We do not provide therapy or counselling. Instead, we offer understanding, connection, and a safe space where people can share their experiences without judgment. We recognize that every person’s grief journey is unique and that support needs can change over time.
Services include:
- One-to-one bereavement support
- Facilitated grief support groups
- Ongoing follow-up and support throughout the first year of grief
Through compassionate listening, peer support, and meaningful connection, NNPCN helps individuals feel less alone as they adjust to life after loss. Our goal is to provide caring, consistent support while honouring each person’s unique experience of grief.

Social isolation can have a significant impact on seniors’ emotional, mental, and physical well-being. The Near North Palliative Care Network (NNPCN) helps reduce loneliness and foster connection through its Seniors Activities and Friendly Visiting programs, providing opportunities for companionship, conversation, and social engagement.
Our programs promote:
- Meaningful relationships
- Emotional well-being
- Community connection
- A sense of belonging and purpose
Seniors Activities
NNPCN’s Seniors Activities program offers opportunities for older adults to participate in social, recreational, and community-based activities. Through group programs and special events, seniors can build friendships, stay active, and remain connected to their community.
Friendly Visiting
NNPCN’s Friendly Visiting program connects seniors with caring volunteers who provide companionship, conversation, and emotional support through regular visits or phone calls. These connections help reduce loneliness and enhance overall well-being.
Support may take place in seniors’ homes, retirement residences, long-term care settings, or through community-based activities, helping seniors stay connected, engaged, and valued.

Understanding palliative care, grief, aging, and end-of-life issues helps individuals and families feel more confident, informed, and supported. NNPCN is committed to education and community awareness initiatives that reduce fear, build knowledge, and encourage open conversations.
Through:
- Community workshops and presentations
- Volunteer education and training
- Public awareness events
- Partnerships with local organizations
We share practical, compassionate information about:
- What palliative care really is
- How grief affects people differently
- How connection and support improve quality of life
- How to access community resources
By increasing awareness and understanding, NNPCN helps build a more compassionate, informed community, one where people feel less alone and better supported through life’s most difficult transitions.
